EUROPEAN FUNDS
Holyhead is located within an EU Objective One area, and has been able to qualify for funds under various categories since 2001. The funding was allocated in a number of specific eligibility categories, each with its own criteria. Funds had to be applied for, in competition with other projects from across West Wales and the Valleys. Up to March 2006, Objective One funding approvals for Anglesey totalled circa £30M, of which circa £10M was approved for projects located in Holyhead. Expenditure under Objective One funding for Wales has to have been made before December 2008 to qualify. A leaflet has been prepared featuring Objective One funded projects in Holyhead, and is available upon request.
EU Convergence Funding
A new round of EU regional support funding for West Wales and the Valleys has been confirmed, and some projects have been approved. This "Convergence Fund" will be available for up to seven years, and is similar in scale to Objective One. The funding arrangements and eligible activities differ from those under the Objective One programme. See the WEFO website for the latest information.
