Commercial Investment
       

Holyhead is experiencing new commercial investment on an unprecedented scale and the town is now one of the most important private investment locations in the region.

The following identifies some significant investment schemes:-

Tesco Supermarket

This major store near A55 Junction 2 opened in 1998. It attracts large numbers of shoppers from across Anglesey, as well as many ferry users.

Lidl Supermarket

A site near to the Port entrance/Black Bridge was developed to provide a Lidl supermarket, which opened in 2002.

Penrhos Retail Park

Land next to Penrhos Industrial Estate has been developed to provide four large commercial units, which opened during 2003. The current retail tenants are Argos,
QS (previously Bewise), Instore and Farm Foods.

Netto & McDonalds

The former cattle lairage site next to A55 Junction 1 has been reclaimed and developed to provide a Netto supermarket and a Mc Donalds Restaturant, both opened in 2004.

Holyhead Retail Park

An area forming an early part of Penrhos Industrial Estate has been redeveloped to provide a second retail park, located next to Tesco and the Penrhos Retail Park. The occupiers of this site now include Brantano, Peacocks, Carpet World, New Look and Wilkinsons. These stores opened during 2005. There is currently one unoccupied unit.

Holyhead Marina

This private development is taking place on the north side of the town, in the outer harbour/Newry Beach area. The number of pontoon berths has steadily increased to about 150 and should increase over time to the consented 500. This development includes marina facilities and commercial units on the ground floor and high quality residential flats on the upper floors.

Travelodge

Works on building a new £2M Travelodge hotel at Kingsland near A55 Junction 1 took place recently, and the hotel has been open since October 2007.


Homebase

A new Homebase store opened in Holyhead on the 23rd of March 2007.

Town Centre Landmark Building

Anglesey County Council, in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government are developing a new £2M landmark building adjoining the new Celtic Gateway bridge, overlooking the Inner Harbour. This is due to have a commercial food/drink outlet unit on the street-level and office units on the upper floors, which would be rented on a commercial basis. New Morrisons Superstore

A new supermarket is under construction by Pettifer Estates at Penrhos on the site of the vacant Hedstrom factory, and is due to be open by the end of 2008.
