Business Parks

There has been a shortage of sites and premises for industrial and business use in Holyhead for many years, which has seriously limited the opportunities for local business expansion and inward investment. This situation is finally now changing, thanks to a number of major infrastructure investments.

Penrhos Business Park

This has involved a £3.5M investment by Anglesey County Council to provide four 400sqm business units, four 150sqm units, and a number of development plots. The site is located on the east side of A55 Junction 2. The 400sqm units were completed Summer 2006 and the 150sqm units were completed in Summer 2008. . Funding for the scheme has come from the EU Objective One, Welsh Assembly Government, Nuclear Decommissioning Agency, and Anglesey County Council. A marketing/information leaflet is available upon request.

Parc Cybi (Ty Mawr) Development

Parc Cybi is a major strategic business investment site for North West Wales. It is located on the southern edge of Holyhead on the west side of A55 Junction 2, and has been formally designated for development in county development plans. The Welsh Assembly Government secured planning consent on land that was allocated for a major business park development, and purchased the land from Anglesey Aluminium. An application for EU Objective One funding towards the estimated £10M infrastructure works was approved, and construction works to service the site has taken place., having been substantially completed in Autumn 2008. The project has included the creation of a new road linking A55 Junction 2 with the Trearddur Bay - Kingsland road, joining it at a new roundabout near to the Leisure Centre. The works uncovered a number of historical remains, which have been carefully excavated and recorded by a team of archaologists. This development is seen as being especially critical to the success of the Holyhead Forward strategy.

Holyhead Wastewater Treatment Works

A major £35M upgrade of the waste water treatment infrastructure of the Holyhead area has just been undertaken by Welsh Water, providing much-needed capacity for new developments to take place. This has included the construction of a new state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant, but also new and upgraded sewerage transfer pipes and pumping stations serving the town and nearby villages. This scheme has removed the previous restrictions on additional effluent generation which existed in the past.
It also provides for much improved sea water quality at Trearddur Bay and Holyhead.

A55 Expressway Extension

The £120M dual carriageway road scheme across Anglesey to Holyhead was completed in 2001, vastly improving road travel times to/from Holyhead and providing fast road links to the UK motorway system via the A55 North Wales Expressway.
