Masterplans are used to set out an overall approach to the development/improvement of a specified area. They help to show the "big picture" and how different projects and issues relate to each other. They are becoming increasingly used as part of regeneration activities, and can be changed and updated as circumstances dictate.
Holyhead Regeneration Masterplan
An overall plan has been prepared to show the location of the main regeneration projects and development sites in Holyhead. This is an informal plan which is used for information and explanation - it is not a statutory development plan. The plan is a working document and several of the proposals on it have now been implemented. It is hoped to produce a new Masterplan /Action Plan during 2009/10.

Town Centre Regeneration Action Plan A more detailed masterplan / action plan was prepared for the town centre area in 2003 to show the location of the large number of projects proposed or identified for that area. This formed part of the 2003 Regeneration Exhibition.
Again, this is an informal working explanatory plan and is not a statutory development plan. Many of the proposals on the plan have now been implemented. A new Town Cntre Masterplan /Action Plan is due to be prepared in 2009/10 as part of a new town centre management initiative..

Waterfront Regeneration Plans
Holyhead's extensive waterfront has been identified by the Holyhead Forward Board as an area that can make a very significant contribution to the regeneration of Holyhead in the future. A number of ideas and concepts for the area have come forward in recent years. Preliminary studies have identified areas which provide an opportunity for development, but have also identified open areas which are of great importance to the local community. The outcome of this initial work is reflected in the draft Local Development Plan for Anglesey, issued for public consultation in November 2008.
The Draft LDP Plan for Holyhead identifies waterfront areas in the Outer Harbour area which it is felt provide an opportunity for development or improvement. The draft LDP also proposes that the upper green area along Newry Beach should be formally designated as public open space. The Draft LDP was subject to public consultation between the 12th November 2008 and 9th January 2009 (including a public exhibition in Holyhead on the 24th November), providing an opportunity for the public to comment on this. The draft LDP strategy of promoting a new integrated waterfront plan for the Soldier's Point / Marina area, but of protecting the upper Newry Prom Green reflects the views expressed by Holyhead Forward Board members when the matter was considered.
A joint venture company has been formed by Stena and developers Conygar to take forward a Holyhead Waterfront Regeneration Scheme for part of the area visible below. An Environmntal Impact Assessment is now being prepared and it is expected that a planning application for a major waterfront development will be made during 2010.
